Accessory Bushing Bolt Snaps, downhill from there 200 1986

Day before yesterday starting Inga up to head out the the 32 mile drive home, a fan belt started squeaking. It quit just after you ran up to speed so watched the gauges and headed home. The belt still had a bit of a squeak so did the finger test and it was the Alt/water pump belts. Loosened the bolts and started to tighten the 10 mm nut but something was wrong. Thought the bolt through the accessory bushing on the arm as loose, but dang it that was not what was wrong. The bolt had snapped off flush with engine block. This is not the bolt that can in that hole, at some point a lesser bolt was installed, do not think it was me. Anyway I will be re[acing all the other bolts with new Grade 8 anyway.

Went down last night and grabbed a IMOH wrongly named EZ Out. Drilled out the center and started trying to work it out. A little pressure did not do it so got a crescent wrench and applied a bit more and I though I felt movement. And then the Kobalt that you can by from Lowes Snapped off almost perfectly flush with the engine block. But now I have the very very; hard metal that has survived two carbide drill bits in an attempt to install a helicoil. After two hours of drilling with an air drill and a Rigid electric drill I have gone maybe a 1/4 of an inch in. Oil was applied often and there is a very fine almost metal creme coming out of the hole. That is the silly busted off EZ out of course. But this is trying my patience a bit.

If anyone has a trick or better method, my ears are open.

Tomorrow afternoon I plan to pick up a couple of more really good bits and get back after it.

Thanks and Regards,

Paul
