While bleeding the rear brakes, I found something odd. When I push the pedal down about 8 times with the bleeder valve open, pressure builds up until I can't push the pedal down past halfway. With the bleeder valve open...shouldn't the pedal always go down? this happens on both sides, rear. I didn't check the front yet. I am going to pull the drums in a day or so, but I would like to understand any brake line problems before opening the wheels up. Does this sound like a brake line problem? Wad of goo in the line? The car has sat for about 5 years, after getting a brake job. If nothing else, I will pull the lines loose and pump a lot of fluid through to flush them out.
The original problem was, I suspected the back brakes were not working. To test them, I drove in a gravel parking lot, went in reverse at jogging speed and slammed on the brakes. (Reverse was for the benefit of the dogs, so as not to bounce them off the dashboard and windshield.) I got out and looked and the front tires had left skid marks a yard long in the gravel. The rear wheels---no skid marks at all.
Sound familiar to anyone?
