I've owned a 1993 240 wagon for less than 12 hours, and I've run into a bit of a problem...
I drove it ~250 miles after buying it, and twice out of 4 stops had trouble getting it from Drive to Park.
All 4 times I stopped the car, pushed down the button (well, pulled up the shift handle), and attempted to slide it up into park before pulling out the key. Twice it worked fine. Twice it didn't.
The first time I had trouble, I turned the key on and off a few times, stomped on the brakes a few times, pushed the lever back and forth a few times (gently!) and eventually it magically slid out of drive with no problem. While stuck in Drive, I couldn't start the car or take out the key. (A little disappointing with a 3 hour old car!)
The second time, after about 5 attempts at the previous shenanigans, I got out and rocked the car back and forth (aligning something? I was just guessing). I got back in and it shifted up to Park just like it was new.
I have to drive 1,200 miles home to Colorado in the next 2 days, and I'm a bit concerned about being stuck in drive, with no way to start the car, in the middle of Kansas or something (not that there's anything wrong with Kansas!)
Thanks!
