Missing oxygen sensor. 200 1989

It is a 1989 240. It looks like the oxygen sensor disappeared while driving up a highway on-ramp (there is a round hole before the catalytic converter). Should I leave the hole empty until I get a new sensor to prevent hurting the cat? And what part number do I need? And is it easy to replace? It didn't look like there were even threads for a sensor there but I will have to take a closer look.

Thank you!
