The post clamp on my '88 740 was badly corroded. When I cleaned it up, I could see that the connector of 4 wires that connect to the clamp bolt was so eaten away that when I moved it the connector disintegrated. I was able to solder 4 new lugs to the wires, but the replacement 1/4" battery bolt that I bought at O'Reilly's wasn't long enough to accommodate the wires. Is there anything special about the composition of a battery post clamp bolt that would keep me from using a steel or stainless bolt that is longer?
Thanks.
