eating starters 200

Hello all, have a 90 245 that has eaten 3 starters since midsummer. Sometimes it would start fine, other times it would make awful noises then start on the second try, other times it seemed "flooded" and would have to site for a few min before cranking again would start.

I'm pretty sure the PO drove the *&$%& out of this car, as it came with a new radiator and a clutch w/ 300 miles left on it... Would a corroded battery to starter cable burn up a new starter? The first time I replaced it I figured I got a bad rebuild, but after a month its' replacement had pooped out too. Any thoughts or similar experiences appreciated, as always.

I hope I'm not overlooking anything. I have urges to throw parts at it, the only thing holding me back it limited funds. Xmas it coming tho :)

Thanks in advance,
John
