delayed reverse when cold, any ideas? 200 1985

Hi. I have noticed when it is below 40 degrees my 240 takes quite a bit of time to reverse. I live in Florida so this doesn't occur very often, maybe five times a year, but I would like to fix it. It seems to get worse as the years go by. During the most recent cold snap I almost got out and pushed. The fluid level is okay and the transmission mount as well as the engine mounts have been replaced by oem parts. The fluid hasn't been flushed in a while but I have refilled the fluid twice, once during a rear main seal job and the other time during a pan gasket and kick down cable job. It is currently filled with Mobil DM ATF, which is said to be compatible with dexron and mercon. Should I switch the type of fluid I am using? Would a synthetic be a good choice? It also has a harsh shift from 1st to 2nd which I have lived with for a few years. I have thought about rebuilding the valve body to smooth out the shifts but if I can't cure this reverse issue I might start looking for a replacement. Anyone have any ideas or maybe a nice AW70 for sale?
