FYI: regarding headliner replacement 700

yesterday i finished a headliner replacement in a 760 wagon. the material i used was from jonanne fabrics and was 3/16". the FAQ suggests 1/8 and makes mention that 1/4 inch is too thick.

i can say with certainty the 3/16 from joanne fabrics works perfectly and does not bind the sunroof. it installs well and imo add extra friction when installing the surround sunroof molding over the fabric.

the entire job from start to finish took 7 hours and only required the help of one other person on the re install. don't even try it alone.

tips if you do this job not mentioned in the faq.

1. to remove excess deteriorated foam off the board use a stiff new wire brush and a vacuum cleaner.....makes very short work of it
2. upon reinstall insert headliner into windshield molding first and then re install drivers side molding then passengers side molding by screwing in the exit rails. this helps secure the headliner
3. proceed to rear seat moldings using exit rails
4. then insert the 2 plastic roof screws

the headliner is now stabilized allowing more leisurely detailed work
