B230FT 1990 740 turbo -- Crankshaft orientation (theoretical) 700

Hi all--
New to the board. I have a 1990 740 turbo wagon. It has the B230Ft motor. I recently did the head gasket and timing belt. When doing the timing belt alignment I did all the marks. The mark on the cam to the back plate (11 o'clock), intermediate (3 o'clock), and crank mark (small indentation on front shim to block). Well, I did all the alignments and realized that my belt was running a little cross so I took everything apart and did it again. What I noticed was that the little indentation on the shim did not match the mark on the block but everything else was lined up. Also, the knob on the crank gear (timing gear) was split.

So, I took the t-belt off and lined back up the crank marks.

Then I was thinking is it possible to have the mark on the crank lined up and not have the crank in the right position? I went to the junk yard and was playing with a car like mine and what I found was that it is possible. If the t-belt is not on you can line the crank shim up with the block and it can be out of position if you rotate the thing all the way around. However, if the t belt was on it would not make sense because when the crank is lined up if it is not right the other marks will not be in the right position.

Here is my question, do you all think a motor would run if the cam, and intermediate were lined up but the crank was a full 360 degrees out of position?

BTW: This is my first post and I think it is important to offer and well as receive so if anyone needs assistance on the head job I can give that advise just going through the process myself. I have pics too. And there are a few points in my opinion that speed the curve with advise from someone who has done the job.
