I must replace the front, left and right, brake calipers on my ABS '92 240. Dust boots on both were torn. Through local dealership parts department, I learned that Volvo no longer carries "new" calipers in inventory, so I began to look into rebuilt/remanufactured sources. After phone shopping local and long distance, it seemed that I could avoid time delays, core and "new" caliper shipping costs and the aftermath of core credits if I purchased reman from AutoZone. Indeed, my replacements came the next day, I picked them up this evening.

I have concerns with what I have seen. Each seem to have been rebuilt as ABS from non-ABS cores since they each have two pipe ports with one plugged. Each have THREE bleeds instead of the one on the Volvo OEM cores. One of the calipers has been rebuilt with different parts than the other and therefore is different from the OEM core. This difference is noted to have a wire spring clip wrapped around each of its dust boots. Odd. On the same caliper, I noticed that though the halves have a dimple mark opposite each other's mark and in line with each other, the distance of the dimple marks from the mating surface is different. I had thought that that distance was supposed to be the same.

Though the new calipers came with their own hardware kit, one hardware kit was incomplete. That kit was not wrapped, pieces were left loose in the dirty, worn with holes plastic package bag.

Would you send them back? It seems to me that 1. reman calipers would be rebuilt from ABS cores if I wanted ABS and not modified non-ABS cores 2. replaced parts for Volvo would be standard on every rebuild job, 3. hardware kits would be complete, and 4. cores halves would be a match set (if I am correct about the placement of the match mark dimples).
