I lived in Seattle for several years, and I loved it there. I had a '65 544 and everywhere I went, people smiled at the thing.
... but last weekend, a friend of mine spent a couple nights there, and his '62 Amazon was demolished by hooligans while the car was parked on a downtown street. They jumped up and down on the hood, the trunk, and the roof. Caved 'em in. Ruined.
No question: the previously rust free, straight, unrestored car is now totaled. Yeah, he can put another trunk lid on (but the paint won't match the original paint) and he can put a new hood on (ditto) but those kinks in the roof won't ever go away (and replacing the roof is a big ordeal).
Anyway, the car that was (last week) a daily driver and contender for restoration is now reduced to an old beater. It'll never come back.
I never had experiences like this when I was there. Is this kind of thing an isolated incident, or has Seattle gone completely haywire?
Just wondering. Might be moving bakc up there before long, and if this is at all common, I might have to consider doing something horrible. Like buy an econobox Tercel Accord Outback Barf.
