AW70/71 vs M46 200

If one didn't care whether it was automatic or a shifter, which of these two setups would be the most maintenance free long term? Also, is there any difference between an AW70 vs an AW71? Replacing clutches is no big deal for me but rebuilding an automatic is. I'm not concerned about pickup, just something dependable that will give good gas mileage. Most of our traveling is on I40 between Knoxville Tn and Charlotte NC, plus the ordinary around town stuff
Thanks
Jim
