240 Broken Seat Belts, Fixed / Repaired 200 1990

This is by no means exhaustive but its simply an intro into the seemingly unknown world of the guts of a Volvo seat belt. Two of my back seat belt latches gave out. They simply would not latch the belt in place anymore. I’ve been driving around like this for about a year. I finally got motivated to find a fix or replacement.

I got the latches and finally was able to rebuild my back seat seat belts. The latches I got while in amazing condition had a different way of attaching to the body of the car. I couldn’t use the actual latches, but I could use the bits and pieces inside of the latches to repair mine. I essentially dissected the latches by first gently prying the casing open. Once the latch was exposed it became clear what the problem was. There was a small plastic piece that had broken, not allowing the mechanism to retract and do its thing. I have some pictures of the pieces and one of the repaired seat belt latches.

If you study how the whole thing works its easy to take apart and repair. Its not that complicated of a latch. Anyways, I thought I’d contribute some information to the board. I hope the pictures help anyone who may be facing a similar situation.
