I attempted to change my oil last weekend and ended up having to invent a creative way to do it because my oil drain plug ended up getting rounded off. First, I tried getting the drain plug off the normal way with a socket. No luck, it just kept sliding off. Next, I grabbed my vice grips and locked them on as tight as possible, still no luck. It just chewed the drain plug up even more. Next, I bought a set of damaged bolt removers from Sears and tried that. No luck! It wouldn't grip the bolt head. So I was stuck with no way to drain the oil. So what I did was grabbed a gallon sized ziplock bag, cut about an inch off one bottom corner, loosened my oil filter a bit, slipped the bag around the oil filter with the hole facing down and over my oil catcher, and turned on the engine. It pumped out the 6 qts of oil in about 10 seconds, then I immediately shut the engine off! I almost was afraid the hole in the top of my oil catcher wouldn't be able to keep up, but it did. I then changed the filter and refilled with fresh oil. So if you have a problem getting the oil drain plug off, that's a creative way to change your oil. Now, I don't intend to change the oil this way every time, so I plan to bring it in the shop and get them to drill the old plug out.
