Relocation of Oxygen Sensor 200 1990

Had to replace a warped exhaust manifold on the 90 245. Only had an 85 one on hand, the one with the O2 sensor hole on it right before the exhaust pipe bolts on, with the short wires. Right now, we used a defunct O2 sensor (no wires) to plug up the hole, and have installed a new crimp-on O2 sensor at the end of the long wires near the catalytic converter. This is the second one I have installed and STILL the OBD code of 1-1-3 comes up indicating a wire fault in the O2 sensor.
I have a new short wire sensor on hand that does not require crimping. What is the difference if I install it in the hole behind the manifold? Would it still give the correct input to the CPU? I think I'm still going to try it and see if the code doesn't come up again.
Thanks for any help,
el raidman
