1800ES door stops 1800 1973

Can anyone offer some advise on renewing or replacing the door stops that are supposed to keep the front doors from swinging closed on their own? I've heard that the door must be removed to replace these but I'd like to know if anyone has found a way to repair the things while they're still in place. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
