Severe front spring sag on 960 wagon 900 1995

I have a 95 960 wagon with 145,000 miles on it. I have owned the car since it had 100,000 ( 5 years ). I have never been happy with the front suspensions performanc on rough roads. On smooth roads it has a plush ride, but on rough roads the front suspension dosn't sound or feel solid. Several years ago I replaced: shocks(Volvo)and both bushings in the contol arms. The ball joints were good. This didn't do much to help. The car always looked a little low in ride height ( looks good though ), and it rides like it has been lowered in the front. Lately, it seems to be a lot worse and after checking I can see that the front springs are so bad that there is very little travel left at the low ride height.
What is the best sorce for springs, other than the dealer, and if I use a performance aftermarket spring to somewhat maintain a lower than stock ride height what is a good spring to use.
when I check for front springs, what's available is listed for NON-INDEPENDENT REAR suspensions cars only. Do some 960 have a live axle? What is different about the independent rear cars front struts?
