A friend bought a perfectly good 1988 245 GL for $475 recently, and I've been helping him rehab it and get caught up on maintenance. Cleaning up nicely, better than I had expected. Runs superbly now, much quieter than my slap-happy 1989 245 that can be mistaken for a mercedes diesel in the dark.
Eventually, he will want to deal with the leather upholstery. Are the leather seat skins interchangeable with the cloth and vinyl ones? The drivers seat will need rebuilding and foam reinforcement, but the others would be fine with just new covers if that is possible. Or is it better to rebuild the leather drivers seat structurally, leave it messy cosmetically, and tell him to spring for the IPD seatcovers in black.
