Front seat cover removal 120-130 1967

I am getting tired of my backbone resting on the bar in the middle of the seat back. I had planned on reinforcing the foam with either a blue jean swatch or nylon webbing, along with some 3M adheasive spray.

How do I get the 1967 220 cover off????? Hog clips don't bother me, but it looks like there is a metal bar holding the front and back seams together?? Does this bar 'slide out'? It is in there pretty tight.
