1993 944, Rex/Regina, 177k miles. Car died, no warning, restart lasted a second or two. 12V confirmed going to the pump but no spin.
I had reviewed all the information in the FAQ before I started and was well warned of the pump/sending unit removal issues. It was a minor battle with the larger battle being the installation. I did use a string to shorten the total length but every time I hit a baffle it seemed like I was trying to knock off the new filter sock even though I used extreme pressure to make sure it was fully seated.
Was the pump I found in the car the original or a replacement prior to my ownership at 118k? It looked exactly like the Scantech replacement. No noise filters at the wire ends and soldered connections. These may be 75k mile pumps.
The FAQ warned that a longer 7.6mm hose would be needed. I got it but since this is now the third pump(?) the hose was lengthened earlier. The silicone and steel fuel pressure cushion was reused.
The only thing I could have used was tightening instructions for the big ring-nut. The goal is to get it as least as tight as it was before. A good indicator would have been to add a white line-up mark to the ring.
Since spacing is so tight, Vaseline jelly was very helpful with hose and sending unit reassembly. I reused the sending unit gasket.
First time starting: Stopped a KPII and listened for that short purr of the fuel pump pressurizing and then an immediate start, no hesitation.
