I drive a 1992 RHD 245 and I have spent the weekend replacing the engine seals, timing belt, etc.
On putting everything back together with new timing, AC and alternator belts, I discover that the new Contitech alternator belts (part no. 10X918) are NOW too short. The 2 bolt intersecting thingawing that the alternator V-belt tightening adjustment bolt screws into is now rubbing against the lip of the fan pulley hub (causing sparks).
Which is weird.......... These new belts are *exactly* the same length as the old Contitech belts (which are the same part no.) and there was no rubbing issue previously as far as I know. I put the old ones back on to make sure I wasn't dreaming and the rubbing is still there.
I am just thinking that the clearance is simply tight and I have left out a spacer between the fan hub and the water pump. But there's no such spacer. I have been careful in keeping track of the bits and pieces. Or am I wrong?
Short of getting longer belts (maybe an inch longer) to get the necessary clearance, I really can't work this one out.
Suggestions anyone?
(FWIW, the local Bosch replacement part no. for 83-93 Volvo is an 11A0925 - i.e., 925mm)
Thanks
