Service soon light wont go out even when reset 200

I have a 91' 245 Auto w/212K and the service soon light is on. I push in the reset button and it goes off. Problem is when I shut the car off and restart, its on again and have to reset it each time. Am I missing something here or is there something else wrong? Sorry if this has come up before just direct me to the thread if it has, thanks!
