WANTS TO STALL..ESPECIALLY WHEN SLOW WITH AIR CONDITIONING RUNNING! 200 1991

When I put the air on and idle, the car feels like the idle is low and wants to stall...I see the engine light start to flicker and then I know the big stall is near! Some one told me a long time ago there is no way to make the idle a little highter..this is what it feels it needs. What would you do if you had to bring it to someone to check...what should they do?..without costing a mint with tune up and all of that?? I just brought it back from having the head gasket fixed and it seems as though it got worse, but can't figure out how that would affect idle.
