Installing engine: pain in the rear. 200 1986

In comparison, the engine/trans FELL into my 740, compared to this 240.
I was not expecting this level of grief. Two people were mandatory, as was a crank-type tilting fixture to get the trans low enough to be able to slip it under the trans tunnel and then get the motor to clear the upper rad support, then no small amount of altering heights and angles to get the oil pan to clear the crossmember. I actually got it in by myself, as I did getting it out.
The motor mounts were the rub. We tried mounts on motor, mounts on frame, brackets off motor, mounts on brackets off motor, etc, etc. It eventually took a huge crowbar, a come-along strap and a lot of yanking and cursing to get the last one in. For future reference, was I missing something here? The trouble seems to be that they are angled rearward, and the motor will only go back so far due to firewall clearance, and tilting the trans tail down didn't help. The only thing I did not try, and was my last recourse, was dropping the from crossmemeber and mating IT to the mounts after the engine was lowered.

I love 240's but MAN they could have given it another inch worth of room.
