For more than 30 years I've dutifully set the cut-away portion of the pistons in rear ATE calipers to 20ยบ as the manuals call for. In all that time I never come across an explanation of why the pistons are notched in that manner; does any one know or have a believable line of BS regarding that puzzle?
Also, I just picked up a pair of rebuilt ATE calipers and the pistons have more of their contact faces cut away than I have ever seen before. Instead 1/3 about 1/2 is cut away. Does anyone think that will cause a problem?
