New valve cover gasket....do I need a rubber "crescent' seal at front of cover? 200 1990

When I took the cover off a few weeks bac, I think I remember seeing a half-moon like rubber seal that was formed and fit at the front of the cover right behind the timing belt cover. I know the back has a rubber-like block that fits into the the eng block a little but cannot find or remember for sure. Volvo only sentme the gasket (one piece) with nothing else. So I was going to just put a small bead of sealant around then replace the cover, but got to thinking. Help, fellow brick-guys, and I'll post pictures soon of my bawdy-house engine compartment featuring the blackest, shiniest valve cover with the whitest lettering you'll ever see!
