Gear oil is getting slung around on the under carriage above the front end of the differntial. It smells hot after a 35mi commute. I'm assuming it's the pinion seal ? Is there anything else to consider? Is this a difficult task? How should it be done (ie, any tricks or things to watch for)? There's not a lot of gear oil and the level at the fill hole doesn't seem to change in 3mos. time. Should I keep an eye on it or replace it, the drive shaft is out now for clutch replacement ??
Much appreciated,
Brian
By the way, a tip I got from searching the archive for removing a pilot bearing worked like a charm... Fill the hole w/ grease and then insert something that fits tight (in my case I had the alignment tool from the clutch kit) and tap it in. I had to add grease 2-3x and plunge in between, but it came out fine. The alignment tool is plastic so i was whapping it only w/ the heel of my hand. Mine did have the retainer clip in front of bearing also. Worked good for me so I thought of passing it on.
