Swapped 86 740 engine into 88 240: WONT START 200

Hi All,

I'm kind of new to Volvos, and so far I'm in love, but I'm a little stuck. I picked up a nice lookin 88 244 that wouldn't start. It had no compression in the cyls. so I got a smooth running 86 740 as a donor.

I proceeded to swap the needed parts for the 240 to run. This included swapping in the intermediate shaft with the gear for the distributor, plugging up the hole in the back of the head, and swapping in the appropriate pulleys and brackets.

Things look to be in place now, but the car won't start. It seems like one or two cylinders fire sometimes, but then I guess it floods and turns and turns. I also hear what sounds like an electrical arcing while starting.

I'm kind of lost, since I'm not sure of the condition of the car's electrical system from before I got it, and now I'm also wondering if there is anything I overlooked in the swap.

Any help will be extremely appreciated. I read this forum all the time, but I seldom post because I know i have so much to learn. This time I need help though.

Thanks,
RRG
