Hi, I posted last weekend about the possibility of needing a new radiator.
I have concluded (and tested)--I do need to.
I have spent a lot of time reading posts looking at the 700/900 FAQs etc.
I have comparison shopped (on line).
It looks like FCP Groton has the best deal on a conventional plastic/aluminum rad ($159.00). I am leaning towards this BECAUSE of what I understand from comments here and at the FAQ site re reaction between the alloy head, other metals and possibly deficient grounds leading to a risk of the coolant being conductive.
I am now (belatedly realizing that the coolant in the car apart from being fairly nasty is the lime green conventional kind. Should I pay a lot for: Pentofrost NF ($12.55 per 1.5ltr)? Or am i getting carried away.
Taking the attitude that I will treat the cooling system as 6yr/150k mile maintenance item (i.e. replace it then) I hope to avoid the brittle plastic tank failures observed with the standard rad. I do plan on changing the thermostat, hoses and finally bypassing the comp board.
Let me know your thoughts,
cheers,
Rod
