Hello all,
I started to remove the first spark plug in my ’88 240. It started moving without excessive effort, but after almost a full turn it didn’t feel like it was getting any looser. I had read some horror stories in the archives, so I chickened out and just re-tightened it, because I was worried it was stripping. Should the plug have gotten looser after breaking the initial torque? Or does it take a few turns?
I am embarrassed to say that, upon checking my records, I found that these spark plugs have been in there for over 110,000 miles. The car runs fine, although it seems to be more underpowered than usual on the hills.
