122 / 1800 brake shoe placement. 120-130

I just picked up a 67 1800 and checking the rear brakes out. I also have a 68 122. My question is how are the brake shoes supposed to be set up? On the brake shoes there is a gap on one end of the shoe before the edge, the other is just about even with the edge. The car I have has the gap on the top side for the drivers side then the gap is on the bottom of the passenger side. Ive always known the shorter shoe to go in front on drum brake systems but does it matter on these cars or not?
