Hi all -- I'm new here,
I've owned my 71 142S for three months, and it's in great shape, has a clean bill of health from the local (DC-area) vintage Volvo guy. Runs great and is my daily driver. Yet....
The electrics are being a little finicky. The one thing the former owner told me didn't work was the instrument panel light. Magically came on the other day and has stayed on. The brake lights went out yesterday, and a little fiddling with the fuses and they stayed on. Ditto the radio. And the rear defrost -- the lights come on, and I can hear see the headlights dim when I turn it on, but it's not very effective.
A friend suggested I just spray the fusebox with contact cleaner and carefully turn the fuses to dislodge any corrosion. Sound advice? He also said to do the same with the defrost relay.
I'm fine with mechanics, but electricity.... Any advice is welcome. Thank you!
