Is the temp gauge usable if the TCB has been bypassed?
Bentley indicates the 68 ohm resistor will place the temp gauge at about 3/4 of the way up. Is this the same with or without the TCB? If it's not the same, where should it be without TCB? I did find some handwritten notes that I believe showed the 68 ohm resistor test to place the needle at 9 o'clock without the TCB, but I am not sure if I am interpreting those notes correctly.
My TCB has been bypassed for several years now but lately the gauge has been reading a bit hotter than normal. As routine maintenance I swapped the radiator, t-stat, and coolant (confirmed proper bleeding) and had no change. I then tested the gauge with a 68 ohm resistor (verified) and it placed my needle about two needle's width above 9 o'clock. My concern is that if the gauge is calibrated to work with the TCB, when you remove the TCB, where does the "red" zone really start?
