How do I tell if the exhaust manifold gasket is leaking 200 1985

WHat is the easiest way to tell if the gasket between my exhaust manifold and engine needs to be replaced(is leaking)?

My Volvo service guy is claiming that this gasket needs to be replaced(along with other parts) in order for my car to pass emissions.

There is one broken bolt on the manifold.
