240 No Start 200 1988

1988 245 DL / AW-70, 280K miles

Daughter just called; she's stranded, "car won't start."

Had her do some basic tests to determine charge of battery. Headlights are bright and all interior lights, radio, etc work; so battery apparently is charged. Car started fine, last night.

Turning the ignition key doesn't energize the starter, although once (over phone) I thought I heard faint click of solenoid which after that, remained silent. I had her make sure the gear selecter was firmly in Park position.

I am arranging to have her towed back to her house. When I get into town next week, I can investigate further.

Any suggestions where to start troubleshooting?
