How bad an idea to pack rattling strut insert in situ? 700

Year by year one strut insert rattles more and more in winter. It is starting to drive me nuts. Even nuttier.

BF pipe wrench taken to tighten the strut insert gland nut (is that the right word?) does not do the trick.

Nuts. I do NOT want to do the whole strut insert replacement routine.

How good or bad, please, do you think this sounds?
1. Raise front end, and remove appropriate wheel.
2. And support (lift... take up the spring load) the lower end of the strut.
3. Loosen the nut fully, lift it up the shaft, and clean its threads.
4. Wind a layer of solder around the shaft, atop the strut body, coiled like a snake, to bulk up the strut's length, right?
5. Put it all back together.

Thanks for your help!
