Blown fuse mystery? 200 1989

So, after doing the major tune up... plugs, wires, Distributor cap, rotor, new ground wire on the valve-to-firewall. the fuse that connects the battery to the starter (by the battery under the hood 30 amp) blew. Horribly at that. broken and burnt, it just all went... This can be replaced.. Easily at that. but, what i'm wondering, is why? Also, if it's going to happen again.
