Hi all,
In the process of replacing water pump heater pipe seal. B230F. I noticed that the timing belt appears to have more slack than it should. I'm still new to these cars though, so I may be wrong! There's probably about 12mm on the longest run. I guess it's even enough to be able to walk the belt off the side of the pulleys.
My questions are:
(1) Am I correct in thinking the tension should be adjusted automatically, and that the tensioner needs to be replaced? If so, I'm kinda surprised the car didn't leave me stranded.
(2) It's an M46 manual transmission. To I need the special volvo tool to lock the crankshaft pulley, or can I just put in in 4th to keep things in place?
Many thanks,
Tim
