My 125 000km (80k mi) 1971 144 has been in dry storage for about 4 years waiting for new engine gaskets and a paint job. It has slight surface rust where paint is very thin. At the end of the year I want to get a strip down and paint job done, but for the next 4 months I need to store it outside (with a cover). It is summer here in New Zealand, but that still means rain about once or twice a week. Up to now I have not waxed the car at all as I'm told it is best not to before a paint job. But if the car stands outside it needs protection so that the surface rust does not turn into pitting. What can I use that would not adversely affect the (near) future paint job? Obviously anything with silicone would be out. I do have Meguiar's carnauba wax.
