Fuel pump relay connector looks melted 444-544 1986

Recently changed the fuel pump and filter as the car was stalling and dying abruptly, same thing happened again, looked at the fuel pump relay and the black male connector to the relay looks melted obvious short. if i go and buy a replacement connector from the junk yard because i have not dealt with the source of the short will not the same problem repeat itself?
