srs light on - can't get codes or reset?? 200 1991

91 244 - SRS light came on a week or so ago -
I have tried grounding the test port - the light goes out when it is grounded (with the car running). I tried following the instructions in the 700 FAQ's to retrieve the fault codes - grounding for 2 seconds - but I dont get any flashes - just a steady light that goes out if grounded. Any suggestions???
