Hi everyone,
Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm working on my 1990 940 wagon. It's a non-turbo car with Rex/Regina Ignition.
Starting this winter, I've had a problem of the car not wanting to stay running at startup. I thought this was related to the bitter cold we were experiencing here in Louisville, but now that it has warmed up even into the mid-60's, the problem persists.
I can get in the car, turn the key, and have the car crank, fire and idle fine. As soon as I press the gas, the car tries to die. If I let it die, it will not run again unless I keep cranking and cranking and flooring the gas pedal. The car will then sputter, sputter, shake, smoke, and then finally the throttle response cleans up and I can drive around all day.
I'm trying to run through the possible culprits. I've gotten codes for the MAP sensor, which I replaced and I have not since had a code, but the problem persists. I then got a code for the radio suppression relay, which I've tested and cleaned the contacts.
Any other ideas about these symptoms?
All help is deeply appreciated.
Thanks,
RG
