fuel sender question 200

My fuel gauge stopped working on Saturday so I pulled the cover and took a look at the top of the sender and one of the tabs that connect the harness to the sender (under the oval piece, ART refers to it as the "sealed electrical feed-through") was snapped off and the oval piece was pretty loose at the top of the sender, no doubt form all the rough handling from when I put in a new in-tank pump. My question is since the connection is gone from the wire harness to the sender does my in-tank pump still work? I jumped the fuses and I did not hear it but could this be the cause its not coming on? and is there a way that you can wire the pump up directly and bypass that little oval piece just for a few days? Or could I just drive it without the in tank pump working till I get the new sender?
I just ordered a new one should be here in a few days.
