I brought my car to the garage after noticing a whining sound in my power steering. When I picked it up it had a 1600 dollar estimate for a new power steering rack/gears, p/s pump, and hoses. Does anybody know where I can get these parts for cheap? I'm on an extremely limited income, and even if I do the repairs myself I cannot afford anything very expensive.

Alternatively, are there any parts that can be replaced one at a time as to lessen the problem?


If anybody has any ideas at all on how to get one of these parts in working order, please let me know.
