Oil Cooler Steel Line Replacement 900

I don't want to become famous on this board for my long stories, so I'm doing my best with this one.

My wife called and said coolant was leaking out of the car. She left it and a couple days later I added water and saw low down at the back of the engine passenger side a very fine stream of water shooting upward.

I nursed the car home about 20 miles by adding water periodically and put it up on ramps. Once I did the source of the leak was very obvious. This 1995 940 is a turbo. Just below the oil filter is an assemblage of steel tubes and hoses. One of this includes a drain nipple. Just where the steel tube exists the aft side of this drain the water stream was visible. Simple enough, the steel tube has corroded right where it is screwed into the drain fitting. Replace the tube and I will be all set. I removed the two rubber hoses to gain access. One is short and right angled, the other longer and U shaped. I am tempted to use them again, but I probably shouldn't, based on reading the Brickboard FAQs.

[Of course I drained the oil and removed the filter first. Without doing that access would be near impossible]

Although removing the hoses was a bit of a chore, that is nothing compared to the problem I am encountering removing the 22 millimeter nut that holds the steel tube into, what I assume, is a flared fitting on the bell housing above the oil sump. I removed the rubber hoses partly to be able to apply heat to that nut and did so for about 5 minutes with a propane torch, not Map Gas, which I usually favor. Still I could not get the nut to budge. I was able to work the steel tube back and forth, but the nut held firm. I have a short open end wrench and not much leverage. I am going to buy an articulating 22mm socket and I think the next step is to cut the line so I can place the socket over the nut. Any other ideas?

However, this thread is for another significant purpose.

For about 7 years I have been trying to track down an oil leak, which is very annoying. While I was working under the car, on the oil cooler parts, I looked up at the front facing vertical surface of the bell housing over the oil sump. There I see a threaded female opening into the housing. I'm wondering? Is this another example of the expert workmanship of my trusted mechanic, or is this just a threaded hole that is available for some other purpose not applicable to my specific car. The area around the filter and all the cooler hoses I've described is soaked in oil or fluid. Its a big mess. Can it be coming from this opening.

About three years ago I had to have the Turbo replaced on this car. Would that have involved this location. I can describe it better, if need be. I was somewhat shocked to see this threaded opening, but I might be over reacting.

Thanks for the anticipated help. I am learning so much from the Brickboard that it makes me sad and frustrated to have been a RWD Volvo owner for 30 years and I'm just getting with the program and all you wonderful real mechanics who are contributors.
