AW70L reverse in all gears 200 1991

I picked up an aw 70L that was supposed to have been in working order. I had the local transmission shop install the front and rear seal and bushing. Tonight I finally got it back together. At first when I shifted into reverse it worked normally, but when I shifted through the rest of the gears it stayed in neutral. When I went back and tried reverse again , it also wasn't working. I then let the car sit for 15 minutes This time the transmission stayed in reverse through all the gears even park after starting. I then shifted the linkage at the transmission and could feel the detente but still just reverse. Is there something that I'm missing here. I was careful in installing the torque converter. I once learned that lesson the hard way. After Cracking the crank position sensor housing in my first attempt to get this right the other day. I would hate to have to start again for the third time. Any suggestion would be appreciated...
