Last week while replacing the Girling front calipers on Wifemobile (89 740 non turbo), I used my brand new Sears Craftsman 'professional'11mm flare nut wrench and of course rounded off one of the 11mm nuts connecting the metal brake line to the rubber hose that itself connects to the caliper. I managed to install the rebuilt caliper via contortions but the rounded off nut is still on the car. Naturally, I visited the PNP and obtained another metal line from a donor car for future use.
Upon doing research, I learned that Snap-on flare nut wrenches fit tighter than any other brand BUT they are expensive. I just paid $30 for a 9/11mm Snap-on wrench and $145 for a complete set of Snap-on flare nut wrenches from eBay.
Did I do the correct thing? I figure that expensive tools that do the job correctly the first time are worth it.
Or should I have just soaked in PB Blaster for several days and used the 'el cheapo' wrench?
