Steering Bump.
On my '94 940 "Red". This is the best way I can describe it. Its not a stiffness problem exactly. I have that on my "Navy" 940 with "new" rack. That's going back tomorrow to JD, finally, for replacement.
This is different.
The steering seems to have its proper hydraulic assist but as I begin to turn the wheel when driving to make a left, or a right turn, the steering wheel resists noticeably and then, "bumps" or maybe pops over the bump is a better way to describe it and then it is OK until I return to the center position, in which case there is another pump.
Its as if someone is holding the wheel as I try to turn it as a joke and then suddenly lets go.
I've read all the FAQs on steering, but none of them seem to address this kind of problem.
I'm looking for ideas.
I did read something about a bad U joint on the steering column and I've greased them up a little, as best as I can get to it from above. I'm about to take the car for a spin, but I am skeptical this could be the problem.
