Replace ALL 1992 240 GL Springs with 1991 240 Wagon Springs 200

Folks,

I searched the mighty brickboard.

Any mention as to a cheap 240 sedan spring upgrade are installing salvaged 240 wagon springs and replacing the rearm possibly sagging, 240 sedan springs.

I have that verdigris (dark green) 1992 240 GL (142,000 miles) in need of new front shocks and upper strut mounts. The poor green wee beastie originated from Littleton CO. I found it in Boise ID.

At any rate, the 1992 240 GL has stock springs. All four springs are covered in rust and it is not light. Like some car that came from Chicago or St. Louis (four feet of road salt for each snowflake). The 1992 240 GL spent life out West. Else, minor surface rust flecks I'll continue to treat.

A Solution?:

In the local yunkyard is a nearly perfect 1991 240 wagon. All four springs are of the wagon heavier duty variety just like my 1990 240 DL (245) wagon. The spring diameter is larger than that of my 1992 240 GL sedan.

I want to install all FOUR salvaged rust-free wagon springs (left and right, front and rear) and place install these on the 1992 sedan.

Please, if you folks have experience doing the same thing on the 1989 to 1993 models, please let me know what I could expect like:

- change in handling characteristics
- ride height increase front and rear

I also have a set of 240 turbo sedan stabilizer bars. In your experience please, would the combination of 1991 240 wagon springs and 240 turbo sedan cause any really adverse handling issues?

I like a harder, more responsive, ride quality and handling. Case in point, my 1991 sedan has the prior (TME?) or current (available in 2001 from) IPD wagon sport springs with the Bilstein HDs. The wee grey beastie rides and handles just fine. It also has the turbo front 23mm and rear 1979 242 GT 23mm stabilizer bars. I drive like a little old man, yet when pushed, the 1991 sedan handling is nearly neutral with the stock 14 inch steelies wheels and tires. The Michelin tires do quite well.

I have the original springs from my 1991 Volvo 240 in a box. I'd planned to use these or some HD springs all around for the 1992 240 GL, yet these wagon springs all around seem to fill the HD spring craving I have and the $ bill.

Please, let me know what you think.

I may go mine that 1991 wagon for those springs and other parts when some cloudy, cool, and slightly misty PacNW weather rolls about in the next 18 hours, so tomorrow I'll get it (with lots of sunblock, anyhoo).

Thank you, fellow brickboarding citizens.

cheers,
