Upgrade the powerplant 444-544

Hey,

So I have been out running around in the Volvo and have been thinking of upgrading the engine to a more powerful one. I live outside of Baltimore, thats right the heroin capitol of the East coast, the second in murders per capita this year and voted the third worst place in the country to drive by one of those car mags. Anyway, I have been getting passed by 1980s Kcars and even worse, 1970s hondas.

I was talking to a local guy here, he was saying that the Mercury Merker v6 motor had a 60 degree angle stroke instead of the 90 degree stroke angle. I was wondering if anyone had been involved in replacing the motorand trans; other than upgrade to a B20 with the M21 trans.

I know there are the ones that have slammed the 327s and big blocks in there, but has anyone found a good sized v6 or small v8 that will fit between the frame rails and the firewall and trans tunnel wouldn't have to be so heavily modified to fit the transmission?

If you haven't taken a look at ebay lately, look up a 1960 volvo 544, it has a 327 and has been heavily modified. Looks nice, but I don't really se the practicality in it. I would drive it like I stole it though.
